What annual flowers are good to plant on the entrance island of a housing development?

Question:

Answers:
Why annuals? Perennials make more sense because you plant them once and they keep coming back. Daylilies are good choices as they bloom for most of the summer and the plants get bigger every year. A lot of the developments here in south-eastern Michigan use yellow daylilies in different heights to good advantage for landscaping. The Stella D'Oro is a reasonably priced variety - they may cost a bit more than annuals to start, but it's a one time investment instead of having to shell out every year.

Datura are an unusual flower, always makes a talking point.
Also known as the moon flower.
I plant Marigolds every year. Easy to grow and maintain. They last clear into the fall which is great too.
Coleus, Impatiens, Petunias... You could make a nice arrangement with that combination of colors.
depends on where you live,if you are in the south,i recommend periwinkle, also assuming its in the sun.IN the north use impatiens .Your options are endless, but the summer season is well on its way,so don't delay. If in the south, wait until fall and do pansies and snapdragons. If there is a lot of children there, involve them in the work so they have the feel of ownership, hopefully they will not destroy them that way.Talk to your local greenhouse and gardeners. If you don't have a greenhouse in your area, call a garden-club for advice.
