What do you think of this idea for eliminating algae growth on bricks?
Question:Several people posted very helpful replies to my earlier questions on this topic, so I thought I'd share a new idea. My husband suggested sprinkling sanitized sand (the dry white kind sold in large bags for children's sandboxes...not the damp yellow kind, actually more fun in sandboxes because it holds together better than the white..but I digress!) all over the bricks and using a stiff-bristled brush to erode away the green growth....and it does seem to work. This would surely eliminate the concern of using something toxic to bordering plants (bleach, vinegar, hot water, etc.) Can anybody think of any negatives to this method? How quickly the algae will regrow remains to be seen....

I had a similar problem with algae all over landscape rocks . What I used was a product called "Physan-20" here's the link to their website: http://www.physan.com/ Physan-20 is gentle enough to use on crassula, cacti and orchids but it is also strong enough to kill off algae (without harming your plants of course).
If you have that much energy be my guest! You can put the spent sand in clorox water and drain and dry and reuse? Just a thought.
This will work for a temporary solution, but will come back quite quick...it does not kill any alge below the pourosity of the bricks...such as bleach does
