Is soft water bad for flowers and houseplants?
Question:I have well water with a Culligan water softener. Is that water bad for my out door flowers and indoor plants? Or should I use plain rusty well water for my flowers and plants?
Answers:
My grandmother always had the same as you. She always told me to make sure we used the well water to water her plants..more nutrients and stuff that the filter takes out. The soft water isn't really good for them.according to her!
I don't think there's anything wrong with soft water. however, the rusty water is a different thing. I wouldn't recommend using the rusty water on any plants or flowers. I use soft water on my inside plants and hard for the outside plants, but neither is rusty.
It's not bad nor good.
You can use soft or hard; if your having a problem with the soft then just add some Miracle Grow into the watering pale, it works great.
Hard (mineralized water is ideal) but if the soft water isn't causing any problems then I'd just keep using it.
Soft water has salt in it, which is not good for plants. Use the well water. Or better yet, collect rain water.
Soft water is water with salt in it. Overtime watering with soft water will raise the salinity of the soil which is not good for the plants. I would use water right from the well. You can use soft water if once and a while you leach the salt out of the soil by overwatering with unsoftened water.
