Sure, you can grow a garden in a box, are you talking about a plastic box or a box made of plywood? If it's made of plywood, just make sure it isn't treated wood!!
As long as the "box " has drainage holes, use miracle grow potting soil and fertilizer.
Good Luck
I grow alot of my plants in five gallon buckets. My tomatoes are about 8 feet high and are producing like crazy. All that you have to do is drill holes in the bottom for drainage
Well, depending on the type of garden you want, you'll need a sunny spot or look in to hydroponic systems that you could keep at home.
Google "garden in a box" to see what comes up!
BTW, I like the above poster's idea of growing in 5 gal buckets! I am pretty practical too, and have even built raised beds out of Home Depot's cheap, pink insulation panels! An $8 panel builds me at least two comfortable raised beds, at 1' deep each!
BUt skip the Miracle-Gro. Go for organics instead, that do not wash out into the aquifers and contribute to eutrophication in lakes and water sources
