With all the heat going on this summer across the country. When is the best time of day to water your lawn?

Question:My initial thoughts are to water it in the morning so the water soaks in to protect the lawn for the day. Secondly, i think watering the lawn in the early evening would be good, because it is dried out and watering it would let the water soak in for the overnight. Your thoughts?

Answers:
I asked a landscaper about this and he says do it in the early morning.Give a good watering once a week for an hour each area.
He says watering in the evening is a no,no because the water does not evaporate and that's when you get fungus etc. growing on your lawn. The water that doesn't soak in just sits there.
I always wondered why I'd get "mushrooms" growing on my lawn. Not the kind you can eat of course.
I always water in the morning now and don't have that problem anymore.

I would think that the best time is late evening, after the sun has set and the temperatures start to go down a bit. The water can soakl in all night, and there is not as much residual heat to evaporate the water.
10p.m.
Early morning or evening is the best time to water your yard. Don't over do it because you will just get run off. A nice soft watering will soak in nicely.
number 2. water at night right before the sun goes down. that way the water gets a chance to soak in throughout the night. if you water in the day it evaporates so quickly that it really does nothing beneficial.
Early morning at or before sunrise.
Do it in the early morning because doing it in the evening will cause fungus and also will make your lawn more inviting to sod webworms.
Early morning. You want the water to have a chance to soak into the lawn, and you want the rest of the water to be able to evaporate. If it stays around for a long time, it helps create fungi and bacteria. You can speak to a local expert at http://www.1800topsoil.com for more help. They're national. Good luck!
Early morning. Evening watering lets water sit on the leaves all night leading to an increase in fungal diseases like dollar spot, leaf rust, and so on.
