bug-b-gon.. spray the area! safe in a matter of minutes!

Impossible...ants have been here long before man and may outlast us as well
USE PESTICIDES
borax

or corn meal.

or both.

Borax is a poison to ants, but they eat it anyway.

Corn meal expands in the ant's stomach and essentially bursts its intestines.
Down south a few of us like to use dry grits. You pour some on the mound, they eat it, they die.
if they are australian(bull) ants ((they are annoying buggers, but dont have a bad bite)), then use petrol/gas, but see a specialist first incase theres a problem or they are too near the house... but if they are american army ants... definately get a specialist in and whenever you go near them, use big leather boots and tuck your ((end of)) trousers into them, ants can climb up your shoes and get into them...
My grandfather did not like using an ant poison when my cousins and I where younger. He did not want to kill other bugs or put something in the yard that might harm the children. So, he would boil water and while it was still VERY hot he would put it on the ants. It would kill them, however it did not stop other beds from forming. I think this would be a really good way to get rid of your current ant hill and it would still leave the grass safe enough to play in.
Pouring gallons of boiling hot water all around the entire area of ant mound should kill them. At least it's safer (and more humane .. quick kill) than harsh chemicals,
which could be harmful to any children or pets.

You just need to decide what bothers you more ..

having the ants in your lawn,
or killing them to remove them

Good Luck
Hi,
Ordinarily I am not a fan of eliminating insects as they all have their role in the ecosystem. That said, there are times when we need to protect ourselves from unnecessary bites.
I mix boric acid and sugar and pour it on the ant mounds I wish to eliminate. The ants carry it back to their base, eat it and die. I keep a mixed container in my garage so I can use it whenever. You can get boric acid at a drugstore. You may have to treat more than once from my experience. Good luck.
