Are these bulbs or tubers.?

Question:I have been clearing an old cottage garden and come across some round, marble sized 'things' under the soil with what looks like a bed-spring shaped root coming from them. They are a deep red colour. Can anyone tell me what they are?

Answers:
Dunno what kind it is, but it is a bulb. A tuber is more like a fleshy root.

Have you ever had sweet potato vines planted? It almost sounds like what I have. There are two colors, green and purple. It not easy to kill these vines off but I enjoy them filling in the bare spots in my garden.
I think they may be cyclamen tubers. The coil bit referred to is the seed pod bit. Leave them and see if you get a heart shaped dark green leaf appearing in the autumn. Any chance you could attach a photo to the question. It always makes identification easier.
