Do Birds Grieve?
Question:I found a baby bird in the net that I put out to keep them from hitting the concrete, just incase they should happen to fall. I normally take them to the Baby Bird Hospital where, they are hand raised, and released. But being Sunday they were closed. The Baby Bird Died. Do Birds or other animals feel grief when a baby dies? They seem to not give a hoot about losing them. I know some animals miss their owners, but is that greif?
Answers:
I believe they do. We have Blue Heron around my home and they mate for life. Once a horse got spooked and kicked the male and he died. The female just stayed in that field next to him until my dad buried him. The poor female never really wandered far from it.
Very sad.
No.
A question to think about :)
Not that any of us could know for sure...I imagine that birds and most creatures understand the cycle of life, and accept it as it is. Grief? I would imagine so, just a bit different than our human grief :)
Wishing you much bird chatter to enjoy!
I have a feeling they miss the presence of the animal that died. My friend's bird Crickett just died and all of her other birds started acting weird, throwing their food around, splashing in their water, banging their beaks on the mirrors and other toys in their cages. Was that coincidence or did they recognize that Crickett had died? Is that grief, hard to say.
NO
