When you were gardening DID YOU EVER find anything interesting while you were digging deep in the earth??
Question:Okay, today I was preparing several holes in the ground for 'pineapple flowers' { eucomis }. and unfortunately discovered a very old grave of someone's pet cat. Came across the skeletal remains as well as the collar :-(
yes, I covered it right back up, and simply went to a different spot.
was surprised .. did you ever discover anything while while shoveling away?
Answers:
Yes, I've found very old Indian arrowheads made of stone, that the Natives had lost!
lots of earthworms.
Yes, I found an 1821 dime near the house and a colonial half cent in the side yard. Neither is worth much but they were real buried treasures to me.
In 1983, in Silver Creek, GA, while digging holes to plant grape vines, about 14" down, found an oval, black flint, cameo that had a flower inscribed on one side. Nothing on the other. Had a small chip on the edge (possibly from my pick or shovel).
A similar thing happened to me. I think it was a type of amphibian. It was in a little wooden box. I left it where it was.
Stone or clay musket balls, clay pipes, Roman pottery, clay smokers pipes, money1700- 1990, flints,Victorian china dolls heads, horse bits, bridles and chains, horse and cattle bones, old pottery and tiles.Everything returns to the ground, if we look closely we find other folks lives.
I found a time capsule once. It was at a house that was over 100 years old. We dug to plant some bushes and found a brick sidewalk which we had to remove. I reused the bricks as a retainer wall in a raised garden.
Well, under the bricks was an old tool box. It had rusted shut and all the paint was gone. We pried it open and it about fell apart. Inside was a hood ornament from a rolls royce, a art deco wooden ribbon plaque, a button shoe/boot and a small pile of bottle caps. It was a hoot!
We put the items in a box frame and displayed them when we lived there.
six years ago i was planning to ask my then girlfriend to marry me in Africa. i had no money and i was studying to become a botanist. as part of my college's semester project i went to plant a Commiphora madagascariensis in Kenya. It was there when i began digging and found a 2 karat diamond which solved my problem and made the perfect ring for my wife.
I was tilling a new garden near Warrenton Virginia, when I unearthed some small bones. Having had advanced anatomy, I recognized them as finger bones. I was working in a hospital and showed them to the pathologist, who confirmed my identification. I went to the person I had purchased my property from and asked him if he knew anything about them. He said he knew there was supposedly a slave grave yard on the property but didn't know its location. My house was built circa 1730, and had been the slave masters house. After mowing and weed eating, a pattern of eight rocks appeared. Only one had an inscription, and all it said was "GONE HOME". I moved my garden plot and left things as they were for five years, until our home was condemned for a new highway. I informed the highway contractor of the location of the graves who got in touch with the University of Virginia, who relocated the graves. It was all very interesting. RScott
The same thing happened to me I was rototilling for a garden and it got caught up in the blade I made my husband clean up that mess YUCK!!
i found dead bodies of humans.in my backyard in NJ.it was freaky... we were gardening and that night i had a dream not to dig under the shed.. well the shed was being removed. and i said what the heck and dug, and there were misc human bones about 4 feet down from a house that was built in 1968. . the shed was put up in the 80's, but the bones after being collected by forensics, were from 4 humans and said to be almost 200 yrs old... i looked up the history of south jersey and found out where out house was built was a captains look out? and it was common for people then to bury slaves and "others" in one grave site.?? i dunno but it was freaky...and i drreamed it...which was even freakier... explains the paranormal events of the property, i had to smudge it with sage burning and olive oil and holy water. i developed cancer while living there, and now we've moved and my health has improved 200%.
I work in a lot of yards, for my neighbors and seniors and no matter were I work I always find Marbles! Some of these homes have never had kids and have been owned for like 80 years or more by the same people/family. Its weird, maybe I've lost mine and now I'm finding them?
