No really, I believe it depends where you live. Where I live,my lantana has been blooming for 3 weeks now. Lantana grows really well in summer and into the fall. Then dies back. Its a shrublet type.I mulched during winter and it started blooming out soon as it warmed up.We plant pansys here(from nursery) in the fall, They hang on during the winter and spring back in Spring.But soon as it get too hot in summer they die.Our summers here in Texas are atrocious.
If you live in zones 3-9 ... you might consider the combination of Iris (spring), Hosta (spring-summer), and Daylilies (summer).

All of these plants come in beautiful colors to choose from.
