Growing Red Chiles help?

Question:I am growing red chiles. They started green, developed some purple discoloration on one side of the chiles. Now they are red, but they are soft. Is this to be expected? Will they firm up? If not, what should I do? Thanks.

Answers:
They sound like jalepenos or serranos...if you want them firm..pick them green..when red they are extremely ripe..but good..you can pick them green and stiill have the heat factor

taco bell.ummmmmmm
they are ready to pick ripe like a banana
It is to be expected they will not firm up from this point. They are ripe and ready to pick! If you want to preserve them than tie up with string in a dry place till they wrinkle up. Then enjoy all winter!
