Why have my parsnip seeds not grown. I have planted 5 rows since march at not one has germinated?
Question:
Answers:
Parsnip seeds are the slowest seeds to germinate, you should always sow them in multiple quantities. One in 20 may germinate be patient. Mark where you have sown them with yellow wash sand, you won't forget where.
Parsnips are always slow to germinate but if seeds are old then you may be out of luck. Soak them first and plant more densely so if they do come up you can thin out to desired spacing.
you have not said if it was this years seed you planted? if not then thats the problem, parsnip seed only lasts for one year.the ground also needs to be warm and moist so if the weather is cold for the early march sowing then use fleece to cover the rows and remove when the seedlngs are large enough to handle.
i havent tried parsnips yet but i,m assuming they are the same as carrots and beetroot don,t worry what the packet says start everything of in a propagater hope i,ve spelled that right its worth spending a couple of pounds to get good results then when the seedlings are about two inches big you can either plant out or plant into a larger pot for a while but you can already see reults when you transplant them so you know you have something growing
glad you asked that the same happened to me and I think it was because my seed was too old. Try soaking them first. I have had to over plant my site with carrots instead!!
