I have mold on my squash plants?
Question:i have mold, or fungus growing on my squash plants .
does anyone have gardening book by jerry baker
that addresses this . Or life time gardeners please.
Answers:
Happens when you sprinkle the leaves of the plants when watering or have heavy fog or rain during the season.
Often, there is not much you can do. Sprays and powders for mildew and fungus can do more damage than good to the plant. Some squash plants will tolerate a little mildew or fungus, but fruit production will be reduced.
If you live in an area of high humidity and frequent morning dew or rainy weather, you might want to avoid squash and pumpkins. I knew one home gardener that lived along the coast and built small, portable shelters that he placed over his squash plants in the evening and removed during sunny weather. He still got mildew on the leaves.
Sounds like Powdery Mildew, happens when there is high humidity around.Control with Saprol or Benlate. Good Luck!
Not bad to sprinkle some raw yellow sulpher around them and other veggies, for more natural repellent but your problem is mildew as mentioned above me here...It wouldnt hurt to address the store garden center and get A fungacide to try and get them back in shape.
