Any recommendations for a fast growing "privacy" screen that grows at least 15 feet high other than bamboo?
Question:Is there such a thing as a fast growing, tall & dense privacy shrub that doesn't require lots of water and pruning? I have a 25 foot long section of south facing yard that I would like to screen off with greenery. I live in coastal Southern California. I prefer not to use Eugenia, due to the maintenance. I like the look of bamboo, but am concerned it could take over the yard. Thanks!

I'm not sure what your climate zone is, but the first thing I thought of was either a yew pine (Podocarpus macrophylus), or a fern pine (Podocarpus gracilior)--these make great screens. However, these are moderate, not fast, growers. Another good screen would be the American Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis), or the Wilson Holly (Ilex X altaclarensis 'Wilsonii')--these both are listed as fast growers. A good nursery should be able to help you choose just the right variety to suit your needs. Good luck!
Morning glories are crazy!! As long as you provide a training string or something for them to climb.. they'll go to the sky. They grow very fast and even when the flowers arn't in bloom they have heart shaped leaves that fill out the space. Plant them heavily for THICK coverage. Good luck
Pine trees!
They grow very quickly and became a problem for me my 7th year in my current place.
They grow faster than everything on this Earth.

Morning glories are NOT a good option. These plants are anual meaning that they must be re-planted every year.
Here's my suggestion on a good privacy plant.
Buy some tall lattice found at a Home Depot or Lowe's. Line this up along the area you need blocked, then buy some Virginia Creeper's. This is a vine plant with leaves that will completely cover the lattice.
The great thing is that it grows in a few weeks, and is relatively cheap.
Your best off asking a local nursery to try and buy some. If they don't have it I know you can order some online.
go to homedepot or something similar to it and buy orlander trees, they are generally already 8-10 feet tall and instead of triming them let them grow into a bid full bush. make sure you water them in the evening every night, i know it sounds too much because they require little water but if you do this they will grow like crazy.I did this last summer had a neighbor move in next store , he kept looking over the wooden fence when i went swimming , he gave me the creeps. This year he can not look through anymore bushes are too thick and big
Since you mention bamboo, I'm assuming you are in a fairly temperate area. What "swpea95608" says is the best answer that see here, especially the Thuja. In warmer areas, the pitosporum and myoporum family of trees can be trimmed to make a nice, tall screen. They can get away from you, however, and shouldn't be planted under power or telephone lines.
I strongly recommend that you not plant bamboo. It will eventually go everywhere and is not that easy to keep controlled.
