Is there a good way to keep the white tail deer out of my vegetable garden?

Question:They are eating everything! Killing them isn't an option.

Answers:
Deer will eventually become inured to all of the deterrents listed. A guard animal or person will work, but only as long as they're "on duty". The only real answer is a fence that is tall enough that they can not jump over it - 7 feet or more. If it is a rail or slat type fence the rails/slats must be spaced close enough to prevent the animal from stepping through. Of course the fence needs to be rigid enough that the animal cannot push it over - they're resourceful critters.

Take a bar of Irish Spring soap, break it into 3-4 pieces, and tie each piece into a mesh bag or an old nylon. Hang or place these bags around your garden. Deer CANNOT stand the smell of Irish Spring and they will stay far away. Sounds true, but it works!
Put up a TALL fence - about 10 feet should be enough. Also, you can get a motion detector for a sprinkler. It sprays only when it senses motion. However, if it's a windy day, it will pick up tree branches swaying, etc, and you'll have a well-watered garden.
Liquid Fence is the best thing I've found .Only thing that's worked 100% .Soap, & other repellents have been ignored by certain individuals I've fought with .

An actual fence would have to be at least 7' high (finished height), angled outward @ 45 deg.
yes there is. get some clear jars like mason jars and fill them up with water [gramps told me this works] set them out where you done want the deer to be .they will think that the water in the jars are eyes of a predator and will leave them alone..also pie pans from a cheap pie will do.goto walmart get pir eat pie use pie pan to scare off critters its a win win thingy!
there's not much unless you fence them high enough that they can't jump over, maybe five feet or more; also a dog might chase them off, but they sometimes dig, so it is a problem~
Rig up a motion detector flood light with a radio attached to the socket of the flood light with adapter so when it senses motion the light and radio will come on and scare them off.
It worked for my dad
marigold flowers all OVER will help some
I'm trying a fence made out of fishing line taped to poles at 3' above the ground. The concept is that the deer can't see the line and when they brush against it, they get scared and leave. Before I put it up I had several tomato plants eaten off but since the line is up, the garden has been left alone.
BOW & ARROW!
I have edged my garden in dog hair from a hairy husky dog. It keeps deer and rabbits out and it will add nitrogen as it decays.
If you are near a pet grooming place get them to save you the hair and scatter it around your garden.works for us Good luck.thank God you do not want to kill themmm they are hungry.
You can buy a motion sensor that hooks to a garden hose. When the deer get close it sprays them.

Why is it not an option? There are varmint laws that's a win, win situation. Get ya meat and tater's from the same patch!
Go to a hair salon and get human hair clippings. Scatter this around your garden. The scent of humans will keep them away.
PLace fencing around it...or do it the old fashioned way put stakes in around the garden and tie off with string or rope (tie string or rope every two feet off the ground until you reach the top of your stakes). It is best to use taller ones above deer chest height. Tie every two feet an old CD (at each level) (preferably silver or shiney)or pie tin plates or aluminum foil strips they rustle in the wind and scare them off and keep the birds away
as well.
Good luck with this...it works well to keepmost critters away.;)
Living in WV and having a garden for yrs or trying to...I must say NONE of these methods work. I just try to plant enough for them and myself and pray they don't eat mine.
A master gardener I know uses eggs (beaten), dishwashing liquid and some water in a spray bottle. She sprays the mix on her plants. It doesn't hurt the plant but it smells bad to the deer and keeps them away.at least at her house! You could give it a shot. It's cheap and fast! Good luck!
