When do you plant tulips??

Question:i have no idea... i live in iowa if that helps...

Answers:
As everyone else is telling you, in the late fall. As a rule of thumb, if a bulb blooms in the spring, always plant it in the fall. This includes Daffodils, Crocuses, and Hyacinths. Summer blooming bulbs like Lilies, Gladiolus, and Dahlias should be planted in the spring after the last frost. Most Glads and Dahlias need to be dug up in the fall in your area.
I hope this helps get a general idea of when to plant your different bulbs!

october
fall
Mid-fall is, I believe, the usual time.
Rule of thumb for such things might be to keep your eyes open when at Lowe's or Home Depot. When they start selling bulbs in the fall, that's probably the time to pop them in.
plant them in the fall ,,they bloom in early spring they may be small the first year but they get better ,,once they get good size 2 seasons i think you can dig them up in late fall and get the extra bulbs leave the older ones where you plant them and plant the new bulbs before ya know it ya got tulips everywhere
Plant tulip bulbs in the fall, shortly before it freezes in your area. They will stay dormant in the soil until spring, at which time you'll start to see the first leaves. Once they have bloomed, you shouldn't need to dig them up; the only thing you'll need to do is feed them with a good bulb food. Every few years, you may need to dig up a clump of bulbs and seperate them to keep them healthy, as the bulbs will multiply if the plants are healthy.
Late in the fall.

I would try to wait on till after the first frost & then just before the ground freezes.

If it gets too warm after you plant them they may start to grow.
While that may not kill then they may not be as healthy in the spring..
in the fall. start lokking at places that sell flowers even walmart. when they have 'em out that's the time to buy and plant.
Not all bulbs are planted at the same time of year. This depends on your geographical location and the type of bulb. Tulips can be planted in the fall and early spring if you live in NY, NJ, CT area. They do not take long to spring out of hibernation wheher it is out of a bag of sawdust or in the frozen ground. Tulips multiply as most bulbs...they can be dug up every year and seperated for more beautiful blooms. You can buy certain bulbs now at Home Depot and Lowes - I highly recommend the lily. There are so many different colors to choose from. They are SO fragant and hearty after the first year.

Watch closely in the spring, as the tulip blooms quickly and unfortunately don't last longer than a week. Keep in mind you can plant begonias or impatience right on top in the planting bed for summer flowers without disturbing the bulb. I hope this helps you.
