Will bermuda, Kentucky Blue Grass or Fescue grow in summer??
Question:I need to reseed some thin spots on my yard..Its already 90 degrees for the next 3 months...Will bermuda, Fescue or Kentucky blue grass reseed into currently growning grass??..any "GREEN THUMBS" from Texas out there>>>thanks in advance for all your kind responses.
Answers:
Bermuda grass will. It's a warm season grass and does its growing in the spring and summer, til the cooler weather of the fall sets in. Blue grass and fescue are a cool season grass and they slow down in the heat of summer. Sometimes they won't grow at all in a high temperature zone. Better to go with the Bermuda, however, it will brown up and go dormant through the cooler parts of winter, even in Texas.Hope this answers your question.

Kentucky blue grass hands down would be my choice. Just make sure to keep it watered.
Fescue is not going to do as well in warmer climates as Bermuda or the Kentucky Blue. The bermuda is a turf grass and, as such, should be kept under 2 inches. Also, the Bermuda will not turn green as early in the year as most varieties. Either way you go, just water the hell out of it, drop some 10-10-10 (triple 10) fertilizer on it this time of year, and airate it if you have the means.
Look in to Buffalo Grass as well. A lot of commercial properties are switching to that here in Texas. It's a bit of a broader leaf and a darker green than Bermuda, and much more drought tolerant than, say, St. Augustine. I've actually been contemplating using Buffalo Grass in my yard.
Bermuda will sprout and grow during the summer in your area, provided you are seeding or sprigging a sunny area. Use fescue, preferably creeping red, in shade areas but fescue should be planted as the weather cools--September to early October. If you have a sunny spot, easy way is to dig up a few sprigs of bermuda here and there, or probably where you don't want it anyway, and plant in your bare or thin spots.
