How long does a tomato seedling take to grow to a big plant and produce fruit?
Question:
Answers:
Generally in Zone 6 (Pennsylvania), we plant our tomatoes on Monthers day (Mid May) and eat the first one Mid July. That is 2 months. But that will vary depending on the type of tomatoe and the location where you live. In warmer climates they seem to grow faster. And some varieties produce in only 60 days while others take up to 80.
There are MANY variables that will determine when you get your FIRST tomato!!
When did you start the seedling? Is it planted in a small pot, or a large pot, or out in the garden? What has the temperature been since you planted the plant out into your garden?? Tomatoes like heat, they will not set fruit unless the temps are above 50 F EVERY night!!
Don't water too much -- you will get growth but NO tomatoes.
Good Luck!!
I'M not gonna lie to you...Ive been in this type of business for 6 years and i prefer to just spend $1.48 a plant cause they are so much easier to start, seed for takes alot of patients, time and alot of care(money) and if all this is in line probably 3 months of the right temp. you should have alittle plant about 3" high...I'd buy the plant and go from there, cause you could have fruit in as little as 4 months.
Usually 52-56 days.
