Is it possible for a watermelon vine to pollinate a butternut squash plant? I'm getting squashermelons!!Help~

Question:Seriously my butternut squash plant is next to a watermelon vine and all my squash is not yellow or orange, but it looks just like a squash shaped watermelon?

Answers:
If the squash plant was pollinated by a watermelon plant, the resulting fruit (squash) will not be affected. It will look and taste like a squash. However, if you save the seeds from such a hybrid, you may get resulting plants and fruit that are much different as a result of the cross. If you are getting hybrid squash/watermelon now, the seed you planted came from plants that were cross pollinated.

Hehe... could be.
I've heard of that happening. I planted some cukes next to my cantaloupe plant and my dad told me that I should move them or they would cross pollinate. It would be interesting on how they turn out! You should post it when you harvest them!
Look at the classifications:

Squash - Magnoliophyta, Magnoliopsida, Curcubitales, Curcubitaceae, Curcubita, sp.

Watermelon - Magnoliophyta, Magnoliopsida, Curcubitales, Curcubitaceae, Cutrullus, lanata

They are in the same family. So hybridisation is not unlikely.
I can't find any precedent for it on Google. Very interesting. I'd love it if you'd send me a picture!
They can cross pollinate but you won't get a squash-melon until you plant the seeds of this years melon next summer. You must have planted bunk seed or something you saved from a melon yourself.
