I used to follow gardening books and programmes, blend in colours and colours to complement each other, load of twaddle. Your combo yellow and blue I've tried, its called 'Regal' by the so called boffins, I can't spell horticulturists. I have now progressed to making my patch of Earth into a blazing kaleidoscope, thanks spell check, of colour. There's nothing better than to sit in the summer with a bottle of wine , hive and bumbles bees buzzing about, smashing butterflies flapping from flower to flower, and in the background my gaudy blaze of colour ...I love it.
Must say my blue and yellow was nice, for the 1970's
blue and white!

mesembryanthemum a great range of colour and so bright in the sunshine

purple, red and yellow
burgandy with chartreuse
I use the brightest color as the main eye candy and is complimented with the sprinles or underplantings of the accent color - My favorite was deep pink impatiens (center) and blue, pink and white lobelia around the edges of a potted plant or as a border - I still get the best compliments from that combo - it's beautiful.
Next year I'm going for the sorbet colors - pinks, lavenders, yellows, peaches, and white - hopefully in variegated plants.
red white and blue!
