Is aStihl FS-250 R a good brushing saw?

Question:Im thinking of getting one because I cut down alot of big weeds. What can expect as in repairs, reliability, and performance? It seems like a good product to me.

Answers:
Stihl is a very good product, but I think that a Huskevarna might be as good, not as expensive, and you can bargain on price with them. Stihl products are price fixed, which is illegal in the US, but the dealers all abide by it. You don't need a heavy saw for brush and limbing.

If you are going to be cutting into areas with a lot of privet or other brush, it is best to get a blade guard on the front of the blade. Chain saws are a blessing for those that know how to use them and a damnation for those who don't. If you hit a little limb or privit with the end of the chain, it will throw the saw back at you. So don't cut with the tip, but on either the top or bottom of the blade. Find out how to sharpen it so that you will not have to take it to get sharpened and spent abotu 1/2 of the price of a new blade getting it sharpened.

Sear's saws are made by Poulan, which is owned by Huskevarna. For normal home use, they are more than adequate. Why spend a fortune when the saw will be in the shed more that it is cutting.

My advice is that you never start cutting unless you have three ways out of the area - soemtimes you have to just drop the saw and run.
