What are the tolerance levels for rainwater on a driveway?
Question:We have quite a bit of water lying on our drive and aware there are guidelines but don't know what the levels are. Any info appreciated as currently disputing this with our housebuilder.
Answers:
This depends on the type of driveway, whether concrete or asphalt, as well as the amount of fall in either direction. Typically, driveways are desgined to NOT have significant amounts of standing water. When poured, whether asphalt or concrete, the driveway should slant slightly (an inch or two here or there) to shed the water in a certain direction (hence the term fall). If you have high amounts of standing water, (anything more than two-3 inches in multiple areas) document this with photos and consider a lawsuit against the contractor who did the work if they refuse to repour the driveway. For exact requirements, check with your local department of transportation.
if it is a new driveway then i would contact your contractor. A new drive shouldnt have any water standing on it, he did his job wrong and is fighting with you because he dont wanna fix it ! if arguing with him dont get you anywhere threaten to call the better business bureau on him. that should get the paver back out into your driveway soon !!
