I ordered my from Michigan bulb and it was about seven dollars. You could probably get one from Home Depot etc for 10 or 15$.
Any garden/nursery will have them. Lowes does.
They come in a variety of colors. A nice plant, in a 3 gallon container, will cost $10 to 15.
It depends on where you live. You need to find out what kind of butterfly's you want to attrect that live in your area.
We have Monarch butterfly's and they eat the Milkweed leaves.

If you're not close to a nursery or a "big box" store, you can order from Wayside Gardens on line. They have excellent plants. They have both the butterfly bush at around 19.00 or a butterfly flower at around 8.00. Big difference in the two plants. Both are neat.
You can buy one at a local nursery, Wal-Mart, Rona, Home Depot anywhere plants and flowers are sold. You can pick up a nice plant for about 7-8 dollars. They are not expensive.
It might be a little late in the season now but you can try. If you can't find one this year, leave it for now and pick one up next yes, early in the season, usually mid to end of May and early June.

Try doing a search on the internet for butterfly gardening and it will tell you about what butterflies like as adults and also the host plant they will lay their eggs on for new butterflies (caterpillars). You have to have both in your garden to get a lot of butterflies. Try a variety of flowing plants and keeps something flowering all year round--or as long as your climate allows, to get the most butterflies.
Also--wasps eat caterpillars so if you notice wasp nests, try and get rid of them. Don't use pesticides on your lawn because that will also kill the hatchlings. If you want to try raising butterflies, try buying milkweed plants. Adult monarches like the plant and it's the only thing the caterpillars will eat.
