Some of my rose bushes have black spots on the leaves.?

Question:I have treated the leaves, but they are turning yellow and falling off. Also, we have had a lot of rain here in east Texas. What more can I do? Not all of the bushes are affected, and the blossoms are lovely. The bushes themselves just look awful! HELP!!

Answers:
The rain really aggravates black spot. I live in Oregon and have beautiful roses, but I'm constantly treating them and plucking off bad leaves.

First, you'll have to remove ALL of the infected leaves and/or branches and remove them completely from the surrounding area of the bush. Dispose of them in a plastic bag. Once all the bad leaves are removed, treat the remaining leaves with a product made specifically for black spot prevention. Be sure to treat the undersides of the leaves and the branches as well. You can't do much about the rain, but when you do need to water them, water the ground below the bush and not the whole plant. Water them early in the morning, too, so the leaves have a chance to dry.

Your roses may look a little bare for awhile with leaves missing, but the blooms will remain beautiful and new leaves will grow back. Good luck.

Black spot is inevitable on many varieties of roses. If you treated it with a fungicide the infected leaves will fall off. Clean up all the infected leaves you can as it will continue to reinfect the plant. The damp weather is helping the black spot too. Get in the habit to treat your roses once every 1-2 weeks with a triple action fungicide/insecticide. The best way to treat Black Spot is actually to prevent it.
well for one you can prune them back and also make sure you spray the soil aroud the affected bushes with fungicide you are using to treat the infected bushes. As for them dropping the leaves ,that is part of the treatment the plant will drop the infected leaves.. might want to repeat the treatment on a rain free day! and pick up the infected leaves and trash them. Lastly send the rain to Georgia we need it !
