How do you stop petunias from growing straggly?

Question:

Answers:
during this time of year...cut back the larger branches by 1/3...this will make the plant fuller. during the rest of the year, make sure you pinch off the spent blooms ...below the green part that the flower grows from.this will give you at least twice as many flowers

You have to pinch them back, get rid of all dead blooms. Pinch back to first set of leaves below the bloom.
You need to trim off the old flowers, the more you trim the more they will fill out. Unless they are petunia wave, these do not need to be trimed they grow beatiful 1 plant will fill about 2 sq ft.
"Pinch off" the straggly part a few inches. Also when the blooms are spent pick most of them off. These two things will provide you with a full, healthy, plant in full bloom.
Of course water and a little fertilizer helps keep it going.
Happy Gardening!
Cut the stalks back by about half. They will produce more flowers and be bushier.
