Does anyone know anything about "Golden Rain Trees"?
Question:I think they are beautiful! I was just wonder how fast they grow. Do the little pods they get become a mess to take care of? Can you start a tree from the pods? If you have one I would like to know the pros and cons.
Answers:
They are very nice trees with a medium growth rate (12"-18" per year). Probably their greatest quality is that they are extremely drought tolerant, so require very little, if any, supplemental water. I've used them in many projects that I've designed at the clients request. I'd never use them in my own yard due to their messy nature.
Their biggest problem is, they do tend to be a bit messy. Not only do the flowers drop, but the pods can produce quite a bit of litter as well.
Yes, the seeds will create numerous small seedlings once the tree is mature enough to propagate.
they are beautiful, but they are not very fast grower's.maybe a foot and a half per year. the pods aren't a problem.you can leave them on the ground to help your grass stay pretty.no,a tree won't grow from the pod.
They are pretty but they make a HUGE mess. First the flowers shed everywhere then the pink seedpods fall a while later and they also shed a lot of their leaves in the fall. Not to mention all the seedlings that start growing everywhere in the lawn and flower beds. They will start little trees everywhere. But if you can deal with the mess they do make a stunning landscape tree.
Here in Brisbane they are now classed as a noxious weed because they sprout up everywhere and their flowers and seed are a right royal pain. This is one tree I would poison and get rid of it out of my garden. My neighbour has just poisoned hers after finding out the hard way.
