Where is the best place to buy top soil for your garden?
Question:I have about the size of a medium size child swimming pool garden that I need to fill with dirt
Answers:
If you are going to be planting anything I wouldn't recommend topsoil. Topsoil is really only to be used to fill holes and for leveling, because it lacks the nutrients needed for flowers, veggies, etc. It may only cost .97 cents a bag, which is typically only .5 cu ft. Miracle Gro makes a garden soil that is mixed with Sphagnum Peat Moss, high quality black soil, and Miracle Gro Plant food that will feed for 3 months, not to mention if comes in a 2cu ft bag and costs only $6 a bag(1.50 per .5 cu ft).
If you want to plant new grass in that area, I would use Scotts Turfbuilder Seeding Soil, which is designed for planting grass seed. This soil has Starter Fertilizer and a wetting agent in it, therefor it minimizes the watering requirements. Then pick yourself up some high quality Scotts grass seed and you will have success.
To answer your question, if you want bulk topsoil, I would have it delivered. For your area you might just want to just buy it by the bag, its easier to handle, and you can choose which soil to purchase. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and you will be able to get what you want.
GOOD LUCK!!
For my garden I bought the miracle grow topsoil for gardens. You can get it at Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc.
i go to walmart... its like .97 cents a bag... have used this in my flowers for years.. and then i add miracle grow plant food sticks ! good luck
Any Landscape supply centre will have a range of top soils depending on your needs. buying top soil from here is going to be a lot cheaper than buying ur soil in bags.
I'm guessing that is about maybe a 6 foot by 6 foot area? If so, I would just get bags of soil from a garden center. If it were larger, you could have a dumptruck load of dirt brought in, but for that size, bagged soil is the easiest and cheapest way to go. You can spend a little more and get the miracle grow soil, that already has the fertilizer added to it. If your existing ground soil is poor, you will want to amend it, depending on what type of soil you have (sandy, clay, etc...)
Try wal-mart they got great prices there and you should buy the miracle grow brand.
If you have the means to transport the dirt you can get it from many larger garden centers that sell it in bulk.
Some cities have recycling yards that may have compost or soil that they give to residents.
from a dealer that knows exactly what you need..we got some this spring and weeds grew in it---thats a nono--check every company out for their knowledge before buying
