Help my Red Bud Tree?

Question:After a terrible wind storm one of the larger branches was snapped off of my tree. Now I'm worried that if I don't treat the spot where the branch was that the rest of the tree will die. Could this happen? and if so is there a treatment that I can do to the spot to keep the tree from dying? HELP Please !! Thanks a million.

Answers:
Make sure the branch that was damaged is cut off flush with the trunk.

Some people may say to apply a sealant to the cut, but I advise against it. Just like any human wound, after the initial treatment, it is best to let it get aired out.

Usually people just cut the spot clean with a saw, and just leave it. It will be OK. Sometime nature just taking care itself. In the other hand, the nature did the job for you by let you know that you might need to do something to support the tree; such as, steaks it. Plants and trees do need to be prune and cut some branches off.
Make a clean cut OUTSIDE THE BRANCH COLLAR!!
