Question:ok. i asked the same question earlier but this needs to be fixed! there are a bunch of gnats in my kitchen! i have no bug spray and need to get rid of them now! HELP ME PLEASE!!

Try tying a few bunches of catnip, or catmint,(it's the same thing); and basil, around your kitchen...(or if your decore does not allow the rustic look; put some bunches in whatever container you wish)...or better yet if light allows; grow some of these herbs in your kitchen...bye bye bugs...I don't know why it works, but for some reason flying insects don't like either basil, or catnip. In India, people grow basil by their doorways to keep flys away...
Start swatting ont he ones already in there. To keep more from coming, pour bleach down your drain and put the stoppers in. They are coming from the sink that is connected to the sewer.
pull out your vacuum cleaner and its extension hose...turn yer other lights off, attract them to the kitchen light and vacuum them up :-)
Cut the top off of a plastic bottle, place a piece of bananna in the bottom of the bottle. Invert the top and tape to the bottom - neck down. Gnats go in, but can't get out.
Gnats ? You've got fruit flies! Annoying little 'buggers aren't they' ? Reynwater has the right idea, but if you find the stray piece of fruit the flies are breeding on, you could use it instead of the banana in the trap. Did you look in your sons sock drawer, that's where my mom would have looked first LOL. RScott
Take out the garbage
soapy water in a spray bottle might work. We had the same problem once with fruit flies and that worked really well. Just spray them down until they are soaked, that way they can't fly. Then you can wipe them up and do what you will with them. I wouldn't use a ton of soap though, just enough to make the water spray a bit bubbly.
Evidently you have something in your kitchen that is attracting these gnats. Generally ripening or over ripe fruit or even house plants will attracts these nuisant little critters. Get rid of what is attracting them and you should be able to get rid of the gnats. If it is fruit, put it in the fridge and if it is house plants change the potting soil and if you have some Polmolive Green Dish Soap, dilute a couple of drops into some water, put in a spray bottle and spray your plant leaves and the soil if you don't have clean new potting soil.
But from personal experience, those are the 2 things that generally cause gnats to come around.
Try putting a cup of ammonia down your kitchen drain at least once a week, let it sit in the drain for about an hour before you run any water in it. Also if you have houseplants don't overwater them, gnats love overwatered plants. Don't leave fruit or vegetables lay on your counters, and empty your trash often. You can also put vinegar (gnats love the smell of vinegar) in a jar with a lid (poke holes in the lid) on it or you can use cheesecloth (about 2 layers) as a lid ( make sure you use a rubberband to hold the cheesecloth onto the jar). If you do these things then your gnat problem will disappear almost overnight. :-)
