Orange mould on trees?

Question:At my local woods the trees have developed an orangey yellow mould/carpet like growth on their trunks, was wondering what this was as all the trees in the area seem to have it on them, not sure what type of tree they are but the woods are in west sussex near highdown hill if that helps at all.

Answers:
it's probably either Witches Butter or Orange peel fungus (do a search on google images with these names and see if the images match what you saw). they tend to grown on dead/dying trees but can grow on live ones too. Witches butter is a kind of slime mold and very common; however, it's not edible! (although it's not poisonous either).

Its a type of fungus, or mushroom if you will. it is quite normal but for gods sake dont eat it.
