I put lots or shock in my pool but its not killing anything , why?

Question:

Answers:
Do not drain the pool, you risk having to replace the liner if you do this. Also do not go in the pool when treating it.

What you do need to do is this. Take a sample (about a pint) of your pool water down to your local pool store and have them run a full spectrum analysis on it. Make sure they test for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Nitrites/Nitrates
Phosphates

Bring the results back and post them here or feel free to email them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com With this analysis we can tell exactly what's wrong with your water and exactly how to fix it. Please include the gallon size of your pool and the material it's made of (vinyl or concrete/plaster, etc).

Shocking the pool may or may not be having any effect based on the chlorine demand of the pool, the level of organics, the level of combined chlorine, the level of cyanuric acid (stabilizer), the pH, level of phosphates, etc etc etc. Only a full spectrum analysis of the water will give us the answer so we are kind of stuck without it.

Any other suggestions of chemical additions without having these results is nothing more than a guess and guessing at a pool problem can create a MUCH bigger problem, so please don't do it.

it's gotta be really filthy then. drain it.
What the heck is wrong with you? and how old are you? try making sure you are in the pool then try it and see if it works.
DONT SWIM IN THE POOL FOR 24 HOURS AFTER PUTTING IN THE SHOCK
Shock is very concentrated and should be used carefully.

First you should skim the pool for any large particals of debris,
Then, you should take the pH, and cl2 of the water. If the pH is between 7.2 and 7.8 your good, 7.6 is a good residual. The cl2 should be about 0.4-0.6 milligrams per liter (0.4 mg/l) of free available chlorine. (Could also be 3-5 ppm, same thing different scale) You can get kits for pH and cl2 at any pool store. If the pH is too high then you can add some soda ash (sodium carbonate) If the cl2 is too high, drain 1/3 of the water in the pool then add fresh.
Bring a large sample of your pool water to your nearest pool supply store and let them test it to find out what you need to do. It's much easier than buying all the test kits and doing it yourself and they'll be able to tell you what the problem is usually and what you need to take care of it. A large clean water bottle is the best way I know to get a good sample.
