Answers:
There is a product on the market called root kill which you can get in all good garden centres that works really well as i had the same problem..

Only permanent way is to dig out the root. If you just chop at it, it will regenerate.
I always avoid putting chemicals on my garden, for obvious reasons.
there is a product you can buy at good garden centres. they work by killing the root. it is absorbed through the plants leaves . cant remember the name. but i used it for getting rid a pampas grass that was in the wrong place.
If you use chemicals to suppress or kill the roots, then you cannot plant anything for at least a few months. If you want to plant something on the soil, then it is best to get rid of the all the roots physically.
go to a tool hire shop and ask them for a suitable power tool to tackle the job u could find it useful for other jobs as well.
you can kill them with chemicals but the best way is to keep pulling, over a couple of years they will get weak and die out.

You don't want to strim them or chop them up, the roots can re-set just with a small length
use a tiller ,then just rake up the roots.
We had the same problem with our garden! I always use secateurs to cut all the bramble stems off the stump (foot!). Then use a pick-axe to grub up the foot. It works really well!

Good luck with it!
