What plant gushes water when you cut the stem?


Question:Someone visited the historical house ,somewhere in Fl. Not sure if it was the Hemingways House in Keys or not.But was given a tour of the garden. They were amazed at all the exotic plants and one that when, cut would gush water from it.

Does anyone know what kind if plant she was talking about?
