I grew yellow crookneck squash in a half barrel once. No problem there. You probably don't want to grow too many zucchini though...got to give other people a chance to grow their own, know what I mean?
WE plant in containers every year. Zucchini, Beans, tomatoes ,Peas, Corn, Okra, Cucumbers,Peppers, we even had some Potatoes growing. Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done, it can! You should have seen our cantaloupes. They looked real funny being supported off the ground with my nylons. My nylons helped keep the ants away too! All planted in flower pots.Try it sometime, you'd be real surprised at what you can grow.We also had spinach and broccoli. The only thing that didn't turn out was cauliflower. Bye
You can grow anything in containers, provided your containers are big enough, you have good soil, and you provide full sun. I currently have squash, spinah, onions, and peppers growing in barrells on my deck in full sun. The combination of rich soil and sun makes them very happy! Tomatoes do very well in containers, too. Herbs are the easiest to grow in small containers because they just aren't as "nutrient greedy" as large vegetables. In my opinion, the larger the fruit or vegetable you're growing, the larger the container they need. But yes, you should be able to grow squash (especially smaller varieties) in containers. I'm growing pumpkin and butternut this year in large half-barrels. We'll see what happens!
