no
It can't hurt you. They look scary sometimes but caterpillars re harmless to humans.
Sounds a little bit like the Green fruit worm. Seems a bit early for that fellow. Do you have fruit trees nearby? Or it could be a relative. Caterpillars are the larval (or baby) form of moths and butterflies.

No, they are not poisonous. They just chomp your plants.

You may have heard some caterpillars can cause an irritation to some people if they handle them. These are usually the very, very hairy caterpillars. It's the hairs that cause us problems. The solution is not to touch them.

The very brightly colored caterpillars advertise to other animals they would not be good to eat. These guys most often have their color around their bodies like many different belts. For example the Grapeleaf Skeletonizer has yellow, black and blue "belts" or segments. Actually very pretty. You could touch these guys, just don't eat them.

I think it's an inchworm. They're harmless.
But if it looks like any of these, http://www.nicoyapeninsula.com/wildlife/...

Then yes, it is poisonous.
Where do you live? I don't think there are any poisonous caterpillers in the USA, but if there are, I think you can tell if they're poisonous if they either have big spines on them, like the ones above, or if they're really colorful like this one: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v42...
