Anyone know of a weed killer that actually works on creeping charlie? Off the shelf stuff doesn't work?

Question:I use a lawn service and they have been out many times for two years now, but so far no luck. They said it was the hardest thing to get rid of and that over time it will improve, but that nothing works right away. This stuff is taking over my lawn and I have two high school graduations starting next year! Tried spraying stuff purchased off the shelf and nothing happens at all!

Answers:
To control Creeping Charlie, you have to use a combination of "Weed-B-Gone" (2,4-D product) with either "Brush-B-Gone" or "Bayer Brush Killer" (both contain the active ingredient "TRICLOPYR". Usually, the Triclopyr alone will work on Creeping Charlie but since you're wanting to obtain immediate results, you'll need to combine both products and spray the entire area with a weed sprayer. I would recommend mixing in a tablespoon of dishsoap after you've mixed the chemicals and water together. The dishsoap will help make the chemicals adhere/stick to the Creeping Charlie and allow more product to penetrate.

Use both at recommended rates stated on the label. This combination is excellent to use to controll all your broadleaved weeds on your lawn area (only).

NOTE:
Make the appication during the early morning hours before it gets too warm and don't irrigate for 48 hours after application.

Also, DO NOT apply during windy days since it can damage broadleaved ornamentals nearby.

You should begin to see results of the application within 72 hours and complete elimination of the weed within 7 to 10 days. Should you happen to have any regrowth, just spray it again.

Hope this solves your problem and your graduation party is a hit next year.

GOOD LUCK!

NOTE: Contrary to what's been stated about mixing two products together.. the mixing of these two products has been done in commercial applications for many years in the control of hard-to-kill brush and vine species. However, it's not advisable to mix a powdered product with a liquid material...namely emulsifiable concentrates.

one of the worst weeds out there, not much you can do in short period of time except to have the lawn cut and removed and new sod placed. you will probably get it back soon anyway, i am betting your neighbors have it as well !
use ACE weed killer it says to use a tee sponn or some amount but just pour much as you think you will need
Best thing you can do is get a good sharp garden ho and chop chop chop.
Round up, but it kills everything including the grass that the stuff gets on. Will not kill lawn that does not get sprayed, but in the area of the weeds, you will be starting over from seed or sod.
black plastic or 10 to 12 layers of newspaper
Borax works but you have to be very careful to use the proper amounts or everything will be killed. Online put in: Get Rid of Creeping Charlie- Minnesota. There is a University site that explains the correct mixture. I just printed it a couple days ago for my Mom.
NEVER combine 2 chemicals. I had the same problem. The new Bayer product works AMAZINGLY well It even killed crabgrass. The active ingredient you need to look for is Trimec. IT WORKS!
Dissolve 10 oz. Twenty Mule Team Borax in 4 oz. (½ cup) warm water. Dilute in 2.5 gallons of water.
This will cover 1,000 square feet. If you have a smaller area to treat, cut the "recipe" accordingly.
Borax must be applied with great caution because boron remains immobile in the soil and can accumulate to form a "hot spot" in the lawn. Boron toxicity results in yellow and brown spots around edges of leaves. Stems wilt and eventually the weed dies. Established grass appears to withstand the minute excess of boron needed to kill creeping charlie, though it may show brown discoloration temporarily. If the borax solution is applied in too high a concentration, or repeatedly, it will then be toxic to grass and many other plants. This treatment can be applied only once each year for two years
