What should I do if my yard does not have deep holes?

Question:I wanted to give my potted plants a permanent home but I do not have deep holes in my yard. The ground is a big piece of lava rock. Can I still plant big trees (e.g. Mac Nut tree, Signature tree) ?

Answers:
A mound of dirt on top of your lava rock will allow you to grow SOME things. Most trees need to have their roots go deep into the ground. Trees that are shallow rooted in soil that you have hauled in are likely to blow over in the first big storm.

Good Luck!!

Unless you dig/drill a hole large enough to support the root system and add amended/new soil, you won't be able to grow much.
