Can You answer a question regarding unplanned potato patch?
Question:I cut up a potato to feed some worms. Then I got some weedlike plants and I pulled them, now I have tiny potatos growing on it. How big will they get and how do you harvest them (if they are etible).
Answers:
Just leave all those plants and don't pull them up until the leaves turn yellow and start dying. Then dig beneath the plants and there are your potatoes. But if those were from the grocery and not seed potatoes, you may not get much of a harvest.
Potatoes are one of the easiest plants to grow. You have yourself a self sufficient potatoe patch. I would cover them back up-hopefully you still have some with the weedlike plants still in the ground. Wait for the plants to have white flowers on them after the flowers die dig your potatoes up.
I'm not surprised , they must of had eyes on them to grow. Pull dirt up on the sides and make a mound don't dig up until they begin to die back. Then you can dig around with your hand to see how big they are without disturbing too much. If they are big enough, go buy some green beans and cook them.

Granny is correct. Mound your potatoes by adding dirt around the plant, covering half of the foliage. Continue to add dirt in this manner as the stems and leaves grow. The potatoes will grow in this mound.
I had a very generous potatoe harvest last year using old "store bought" potatoes, both red and Irish. Enjoy!
