I just moved into a house and there is a bed of perennials that I would like to put different items in.?

Question:How do I go about adding to the bed and removing the old stuff without overcrowding the stuff that I will plant in the fall? I don't want to waste money buying bulbs not having them come up.

Answers:
I recommend that you wait ONE YEAR before you take anything out! That will give you time to see what grows best in the space. It will also give time for dormant plants to bloom (things that you might not see right now, like bulbs!). You will also see how much sun it gets all year round.

When you do plant new things, be sure you know how BIG each plant will get eventually. That way you won't crowd things.

Fall is a good time to plant many perennials.

Good Luck!!

Leave it be for the summer. Let it grow and gauge what you want to remove, move, split, etc. Then do that work in the fall at the same time you plant your bulbs.

Let friends know you are dividing your perenials. They may help take them off your hands.
