Mushrooms/toadstools on new turf?
Question:New lawn was laid about 2-3 weeks ago, and is now covered in mushrooms/toadstools. Can anyone tell me how this happened and how to fix it? Also, is the problem likely to come back again?
Please don't anyone mention fairy rings and how lucky I am to have them!
Answers:
its nothing to worry about, this is caused by the mushroom compost that is used by the turf grower on the field they used to grow the turf, if your new turf was laid 2 - 3 weeks ago it is nearly due for cutting the grass and these mushroom will disapear then
the only time I have seen them reappear and never to the same extent as the first time is when we have had long spells of rain and disappear again when you next cut the grass
hope this helps
thanks

Call the sod company you got it from and ask them- it's possible it came in on the sod from the farm. They may even fix or treat it for free since it is so new.
I had this problem too, and I'm pretty sure it's because of the moisture. You're probably watering the heck out of it to keep it damp, and that's causing the mushrooms to grow.
make a cup of tea out off them. you get so high you want care.
Usually that is due to decaying roots under the soil. In your case it would have to be due to over watering and spores in the sod you purchased. You could reduce the chance of more spores falling into the turf by picking the mushrooms as soon as they pop up. nm
i think it is spores in yr new lawn
It depends a bit on the type of mushrooms. If they are like the store mushrooms don't worry. It is likely that somewhere the compost from a mushroom farm was used in mixing your topsoil, or the soil for the sod to grow on. Those mushrooms are simply living in and converting that compost. If it is the fairy ring or other types then there are fungicides available.
As another answer says, call the sod supplier. Otherwise mow them down.
Try the supplier first, ask Citizens Advice if supplier not helpful. Otherwise plenty of products on the market or can even use some Epsom Salts in your watering can - you will probably have to treat several times as it does not kill spore.
