Ohh, gosh. have you ever had a vine ripe tomato? I can eat nothing but tomatoes all day long. You can not buy a good tomato. Fresh fruit and veggies are absolutely delicious.
Cheap Marijuana.
You have fresh veggies to eat in the summer and fall and if you grow enough you can make quarts of veggies to keep throughout the winter. Also, you know what is on the plants and veggies unlike when you buy them from the grocery. You also get the satisfaction watching it grow and know that you accomplished something.
Peace of mind, 20 minutes of hoeing is equal to an hour work out. We grow the makings for spaghetti and pizza sauce every year. Just look at what you spend each year on items you could grow. It is an acquired hobby. And it will take time to maintain it.
You get to know exactly what kind of chemicals (if any) are on your veggies.
Food grown at home is always tastier than store bought (it can ripen on the vine instead of a semi truck).
It's immenselly satisfying to see your own food grow.
Your neighbors will love handouts.
Local wildlife gets a snack. You can't keep them all out, and it's good for them anyways.
Hey-get busy ! It will almost be too late to put in a veggie garden; map off an area in a sunny location, dig up the grass, amend the soil-use topsoil, etc. to mix in-fertilize & get planting ! oh & you will have to frame it with chicken wire to keep out critters ( I use the tall, thin green bamboo stakes you can buy anywhere for $3/pkg. to keep the wire from caving in; or start off by getting a couple container grown patio tomatoes & see for yourself. Variety is the spice of life. You won't find that at a grocery store. Oh-you can even start an herb garden, great to be able to snip off fresh herbs for cooking; and nothing beats your own flower garden; I just picked tons of wonderful flowers to put in vases throughout my house. At this point best to buy the plants, & not start with seed.
You know where your food comes from. You know that you are not eating something that grew out of soil contaminated by ************ whatever people do in those fields. The things that you grow yourself taste better and are enjoyed more than the food you buy at the store. Growing a garden gives you a kind of connection with the earth and the things that live in it. You learn about soil, the things that grow in it, the various bugs - both good and bad - , birds, weather conditions and so much more! Gardening really opens your eyes to a whole new world! It is also a great place to let go of stress! Take that you sh*& eating weed!
