Does anyone know how to get rid of sugar ants without using pesticides?

Question:They are eating up my vegetable garden. I am looking for home remedies. Something that is in your kitchen, nothing that will harm animals. Thanks all!

My mom has a proven technique: Dawn dishwashing soap. Just make a solution in a spray bottle, no more then what you would normally put in your sink to wash dishes. She had ants really bad in their kitchen, and since she has been wiping the counters, back splash, etc after washing dishes, the ants disappeared from that area. She started spraying this solution from a spray bottle and her ant problem has all but vanished. I am in the process of using this around the outside of my own home, so far it seems to work there as well. You have to use the original Blue Dawn though, the other solutions don't seem to work. Give it a try. If you can eat off the plates after you wash them, it's got to be safe for your garden too. (I would rinse off any vegetation before you eat it though, there is some residual soap taste) Good luck!

INSECTICON is the very best thing for ant removal. It is Diatomecious earth and it drys out the body without harming the environment,or people ask for it at any garden supply
boric acid..
I've had very good luck with other garden bugs using a solution of 1Tbsp Murphy's Oil Soap & 1Tbsp fertilizer like Peter's Professional in a gallon of water in a sprayer. The soap discourages even stubborn pests like the Mexican bean beetle while the fertilizer gives the plants an extra boost.
Feed them..either get some 20Mule team borax
(laundry soap section of supermarket) ...or Boraxo powder (near the comet/Ajax)...and mix about 3 parts borax to 1part powdered sugar. Place near ant nest and watch them eat it and the whole colony will dissapear in a couple of days.. borax also works for fleas, spiders, roaches etc. just sprinkle a bit around in the house and sweep into the corners, getting into the cracks and under baseboards. Vacuum up later
Aspertame will completely kill a sugar eating ant colony in 6 weeks and it will not come back for years. Aspertame is about 1000x sweeter than sugar and is very very attractive to ants and they will take some directly to their queen and when she is dead so is the colony.

This is the most effective ant killer I have ever found and it is food grade stuff
