What is the lowest maintenance shade tree?

Question:Full sun - Southwest Exposure in Denver

Answers:
Globe Willow or Quaking Aspen (they grow like weeds)

Maple or oak. Once planted they pretty much take care of themselves and will eventually provide wonderful shade.
A decient size one runs about $100 or less.
My personal preference is the willow. They grow real quick and look exquisite especially when they bloom.
Above are all good trees. If you want one that will lose leaves in winter, I like Oak. For a year round green I like the Cedar and Spruce.
I will warn you about Maple and some other trees. This a shallow root and I mean like on top of the ground stuff. You will regret this tree in about 10 years maybe sooner when you try to mow or have any type of flower bed. The flower bed will quickly fill with little roots. They are Beautiful trees but they nice somewhere on the "Back Forty" (Corner) out of the way.
Also, be sure you not plant trees close to septic lines if you not have city sewer.
Last, plan you tree well for future growth. If, it spread to a 40-50 foot diameter think about other trees and power lines (Power people "WILL" ruin your pretty tree, they have too).
