Ive just lined my new garden pond,i have no outside tap, hose fits no indoor taps, how do i fill it quickly?
Question:My pond is 30ft down my garden, I have no outdoor tap, and the hose does not fit any indoor taps. The capacity is about 4000 litres so a bucket will take a very very long time. Neighbours don't have outdoor taps either!
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fill it?

Answers:
Sure, siphon from your bathtub. Fill the bathtub, and leave the water running. Position the hose with one end at the pond and at the other end of the hose in the tub. Hold the end of the hose under the running water from the tap to fill the hose and start the siphon. You can make a tight enough seal with your fingers to fill the hose with water. You will feel the siphon action start as instead of water squirting out between your fingers, it will start to suck air in between your fingers. When it starts to suck air, put the end completely under the surface and weigh it down so you don't have to hold it. Then all you have to do is keep the end under the surface and keep the water running until the pond level is where you want it. Simple. And you do not have to buy anything. All it takes is a hose long enough.
Lots and lots of buckets!!!
Or just pray for rain!!!
Start filling and chain gang passing the buckets.
get an adaptor for your tap...local diy/garden centre.
Short of using a bucket the only way would be to install an outside tap. This is quite easy to do, you can pick up a kit from the garden centre and then all you have to do is find a cold water pipe nearby and use the self tapping screw to attach the tap. I had one installed last year and it's a godsend at this time of year, especially as there are no hosepipe bans where I live!
you can buy plenty of different tap/hose adapters, most of the garden centres around will be able to help, take a plasticene imprint of the spout and take the hose fitting with you and everything should be fine.
failing that, how much spare guttering do you have? just run some downhill from any tap to your pond and leave the tap running..
best off down to a garden centre.
If your hose fits over the pipe for your overflow attach it and weigh down your ballcock in the toilet the overflow will eventually do the job. But you will need to be careful. If you cant attach it to that I'm sorry to say you will have a problem..
Have the water brought in by truck.
This is a common method of filling swimming pools in rural locations.
Call your local fire department and ask what they would charge to fill it for you.
You can buy adaptors to fit most taps. I hava a square shaped uni tap which I had difficuly in getting an adaptor for.I got one in B & Q in the end.Either that or instal an outside tap. It only takes about half a day to do.
