What pot plant?

Question:My father is getting married and i'd like to get him a plant, what would be a good plant for a wedding present?

Answers:
any potted plant would do, I bought my brother a sugar maple tree to plant in his yard, they planted it when they came back from their honeymoon, it is big and beautiful now. They toast with champagne under it on their wedding anniversary every year.

peace lilly
A bonsai would be nice. If properly cared for, they live very long lives.

I like Pale's idea, too, a tree is a great idea.
When I first saw this question I thought you were asking what type of marijuana plant you wanted to get your father...that would be quite the wedding present!
a bamboo plant is extremely easy to care for, just add water regularly and that is it.
A magnolia can be grown in a pot or planted in the garden. Also agapanthus are beautiful when they flower.
Your father is getting married? Try an Aloe Vera plant, they multiply and when cut, give off a healthy balm juice.
Some plants that are easy to take care of, and do well indoors under various light conditions (low light to full sunlight) would be as follows:
weeping figs (Ficus benjamina) - these can also be found done as Bonsai, and are quite attractive
Schefflera (umbrella tree) - the variegated varietes are nice, and will grow well under fluorescent lights
Spiderplants
Jade plants
Madagascar Palms
Ornamental peppers - these are edible, with varieties such as the Medusa and Nosegay, although very hot

My personal recommendation would be Weeping figs (Ficus benjamina) done as Bonsai, just because they can become great conversation pieces, and if well cared for, will live a very long time. I have 5 in my home and 1 in my office at work, all done as bonsai, and 2 were given to me as gifts.

Good luck.
I highly recommend a Cattleya orchid as a wedding gift. They are exceptionally pretty and often pleasantly fragranced. Weddings are deserving of special gifts and if you're interested in a plant, an orchid is the way to go. There are lots of pictures on the site below. If you Google Cattleya, you can surely find a lot more along with someone who will gift wrap and send you one.
Something like everyone else said, a tree, bamboo, or you can find for cheap at different stores mixed varieties in one pot. This gives you color and its like a whole garden in one pot.
