I just moved into an apartment that has a beautiful balcony BUT the pigeons like it a lot too!?
Question:Does anyone have any keep-the-pigeons-off-my balcony remedies?
Answers:
Pigeons are like most birds and are incredibly nervous of their surroundings. Any movement makes it hard for them to settle. This is why you see pie tins in corn fields -- the movement from the wind, (and the catching/reflection of the sun) will keep the birds from settling.
Try a windchime, or one of those sun catchers that spin in the breeze. Tie them up around your balcony and it should solve your problem.
You can also try wiping your rails down with a water/bleach solution.
Here is a quote I found...
"Other options, not guaranteed to be a long term solution: Noise has been known to work on occasion. Wind chimes, a radio left on in the area in where the birds are roosting, tin pie plates, flags, shredded plastic bags and balloons can be effective methods of scaring off pigeons. These methods will work, but the items should be continually moved around to give the area a different look."
I hope this helps.
Buy a bb or airsoft gun.
How about a big cat. They have these electronic noise makers that make sounds like predatory birds that are suppose to scare birds away, the trouble with them is that it will scare the crap out of you too. You might try getting a statue of a large predatory bird to "perch" on your balcony. Of course there is always the pellet gun option, too. :) Good Luck.
predator statures work pretty good if you move it around periodically. (owl, snake, falcon etc..)
You can buy, I believe, strips of dull tacks. They won't hurt the pigeons, just annoy them enough to keep them off the railings. Not a very attractive solution but there's not a whole lot you can do once pigeons attach themselves to a spot. I also think there might be a "cat odor" or pheremone spray you can buy in gardening or pet supply stores that will keep birds away thinking there is a cat present.
I've got the same problem, living in a city and on a 10th floor balcony, it seems the only thing that seemed to work has been a bird of prey...not a real one just a plastic one with a few feathers so it looks half real. they can be bought at like home depot or home hardware, some store like that, for like 20 bucks, they can be straped to the railingof the balcony. good luck
Hang a tin plate by a string near the balcony. They dont like it and will stay away.. Worked for my folks for years.
