How can I keep racoons out of my sweet corn patch?
Question:

Dogs are what I use to keep coons off my farm and out of my corn but if you do no have dogs that will chase off/kill coons than a 2 strand electric fence is about the only thing that will keep them out of your corn. Place one strand 6 inches above the ground and the other 6 inches above that and that should keep them out.
Scare crow. Or hunt them at night. They are nearly impossible to trap.
Good luck but the fact is it is near imposable to keep them out of your corn patch. A fenced area and a good dog will be really helpful.
Coons are cool animals, but are often a pain in the butt...get a couple live traps, use sardines or peanut butter on the trip-pan, and haul them to some other location.
If you have coon problems this time of year, the probability that there are a FEW coons around is highly likely.
It's kinda fun trapping them...they are pretty smart critters...takes some skill to catch one..especially after you have out-foxed a couple in your garden. You have to keep changing your techniques.
But , i guess HOW you go about removing them, or diswadeing them depends on how humanly you want to deal with them...
Old dog's right they can be tough to out smart. I use eggs poisoned with strychnine but it's getting tough to get with "Homeland Security" keeping us "safe"? If you use a live trap use chicken bones and wire them to the bottom of the cage so they can't pull them through the cage and then they have to go into it. RScott
When the corn is almost ready to pick, I will string christmas lights down my rows and plug them in at night. Not only do I get my corn I got the best looking guarden.
you can trap them with a HAVAHART live trap and re-locate them, or spread dried rabbit blood.
I have been suggesting mixing up some beaten eggs, dish washing detergent and water. If you spray it on your plants it won't hurt them, but it smells pretty bad to animals and most of them won't bother your plants. I don't know if it works for raccoons, but it works for deer and rabbits! Maybe you could try it! It's cheap and easy and you've got nothing to lose! Good luck!

Armed guards or large dogs. Even then they will steal your corn by sneaking in on aerial assault lines or digging tunnels and coming in from underneath.
