What do I need to do to prepare to lay down sod?

Question:I have an several areas in yard with no grass, I want to put sod down but not sure how to go about it.

Answers:
Many things..
1. Check the pH of the soil and adjust it with lime if it too acidic. This will make it easier for the grass to get established.
2. Till and rake the area to a depth of 2-3 inches (5-8 cm)...this will allow the roots to grow more easily.
3) Water the area before you put down the sod and also after.
4) water 2x's a day the newly sodded area.
5) Avoid walking on the new sod if possible for a couple of weeks.
6) after about a week put down a weak fertilizer to promote growth. (not too strong for it may "burn" the lawn)

Good luck..hope this helps
