Want to paint my wooden privacy fence.?

Question:I would like to paint my treated fence that I have had up for about four years now some color. It has gone to a greyish brown and I was hoping to paint it a nice rust or red color. Even some type of varnish and protectant would make it look better. I am hoping that the protectant might keep it a litte better longer as well. I have run into many though, that have run into peeling paint and fading after just a year. If there are ny experienced fence painters out there, please tell me how well yours has lasted and if and how often you have to repaint due to peeling and fading.

thanks, cause if it is too much work on a yearly basis I may just leave it as it is.

also any helpful hints will be consumed most endearingly.♫

Answers:
don't use paint, try a waterproof stain instead. they can be tinted many different colors and they help keep the wood in good condition. and it doesn't peel at all!

i stained my a nice deep redwood color and i love it!

good luck!

Stay away from paint. It will crack and peel in a few years. You can get colored stain. Thompson's Water Seal comes in different colors. It colors, seals and protects the wood from the sun. It is probably cheaper than a good grade of outdoor paint. I put water seal on my fence "every" year.
Find a farm supply store and ask about red barn stain. All thos enice old 100 yr old barns you see used that. It lasts a long, long time. About $20 a gallon.
