Is there an effective way to get rid of nut grass?

Question:I have a problem with nut grass and am considering soil solarization as an extreme measure. Does anyone know if it is effective on killing nut grass?

Answers:
there are two selective herbicides that are good for nutsedge. the first is available at most home centers(lowes/home depot) and is called "image". it will take several applications but it will not kill most ornamental plants or most landscape grasses. the other is called "manage" and will be available at landscape supply stores. it is also selective and should be okay on most grasses as well as onamental plants. as with any chemical, check the label for the results you need.

I had that problem as well and the only thing that worked was to remove the top soil in the infested area and replace it with clean soil. Then if you see any pop up dig down about 12" until you find all of the "nuts" that trail along under the above ground blades. It's not easy but it worked.
